Gators Lose Heartbreaker 3-2 to Nichols

Chestnut Hill, MA – A month ago the PMC Gators volleyball team traveled out to Dudley to face the Nichols volleyball team and was beat rather easily 3-0. Fast forward to today and these same two teams together and the Gators gave the Bison all they could handle.

The Gators played some of their best volleyball of the year and worked hard to take a 2-0 lead. Pine Manor won two hard fought sets by identical scores of 25-23.

The Gators would get behind early in set three and drop it by a score of 25-15. In set four the Gators were down early again by a score of 11-4. The Gators would cut it to 11-10, with a pair of Ashley Whiteshield kills and a Kendra Williams service ace in the run.

The Bison would surge ahead again, only to see the Gators come back and tie the score at 16-16. Pine Manor continued to stay within a point or two; but could never get the lead that they needed and dropped the pivotal fourth set 25-23.

Nichols would go on to win the 5th set 15-10 and the match, improving their record to 5-12. The tough luck loss went to the Gators; they have now lost 13 straight and stand at 2-17 on the season.

Viyanni Johnson had 12 kills for Pine Manor and Whiteshield chipped in with 10 digs and 27 assists. Alexa Leon had a game-high 25 digs for PMC.
