Hard Weekend for Gators

Hard Weekend for Gators

WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Volleyball completed a two-match sweep against visiting Pine Manor on Saturday afternoon, bring its win streak to three. The Fighting Scots run their record to 12-8 for the season and have not dropped a set since a tough loss to Commonwealth Coast Conference leader Roger Williams. Pine Manor falls to 3-16 in 2015.

The Fighting Scots found offense from a variety of sources in the first match. Freshman standout Mackenzie Hinds (Higganum, Conn.) was sharp from the very first point and contributed 12 kills to only one error in the three-setter. Despite being limited in the kills category, Jenna Labbadia (Berlin, Conn.) and Carleigh Petersen (North Hills, Calif.) combined for 14 service aces and 21 total points.

Gordon led cover to cover in each of the first three games as the offensive looked in sync throughout. Freshmen Renee Cooprider (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Sidney Eisler (Stockton, Calif.) combined for 24 assists. Maggie Risma (Hudson, Ohio) led the Scots with 10 digs.

The Plaid looked just as strong in the second match of the day with a 25-7, 25-5, 25-9 victory over the Gators.

Senior Jess Burdick (Brewerton, N.Y.) had her strongest output of the season with 14 kills on 28 attempts for a .393 hitting percentage. Sophomore Meghan Hokanson (Coon Rapid, Minn.) was second on the team in points with five kills and five service aces. Hinds finished with 20 kills for the day. Eisler had her best game of her young career with 22 assists.

Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) led all Gators with six kills between the two matches. Franklin also led the team in points and digs.
