Cruz Gets First Collegiate Tally as Gators Fall to Fisher

MEDFORD, Mass. – Freshman midfielder Christy Cruz (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal, but it wouldn't be enough as Pine Manor dropped an 11-1 road decision to Fisher on Thursday evening at Hormel Stadium in Medford.

The loss drops the Gators record to 0-10 and Fisher improves to 6-8 in their 2014 campaign.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maria Vaughan (Okinawa, Japan) did her best to keep her team in the game as she hda double-digit saves for the eighth time this year. She finished the match with 17 stops.

Four Falcons had multiple-goal games including a hat-trick by junior midfielder Ashley De Sousa (Hazlet, N.J.) and a four-tally performance by first-year striker Julia Schojan (Rochester, N.Y.). Alicia Alex (Pepperall, Mass.) and Kaleigh Mulligan (Winter Park, Fla.) each had two finishes.

It was all Falcons early on in this one. The home team grabbed the lead in the first three minutes on Alex's first goal of the night. Schojan would add to the lead less than three minutes later. She then proceeded to complete the natural hat-trick scoring her second and third marks in the 15' and 17' respectively.

The Gators would get one back in the 26'. Junior captain Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, N.J.) got a shot off that was blocked by the Fisher defense and PMC was awarded a corner kick. The corner by Rachel Sanchez (Hyde Park, Mass.) eventually found Cruz who found the back of the net to make the score 5-1.

De Sousa recorded her second goal of the game less than a minute later to finish off the scoring in the half.

The visiting Gators could have gone into the break down by more if not for some superb goalkeeping by Vaughan. She made five saves in the final 15 minutes of the period.

Fisher kept coming in the second stanza. They got off 26 shots in the half, putting 15 of them on frame. However, they weren't able to put another by Vaughan until the 72' when Schojan added her fourth.

The hosts had four more finishes in the final 10 minutes to close out the game.

Pine Manor returns to Hedley Field on Oct. 16 for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff in its penultimate home match against Becker.

Fisher's next test is a Columbus Day clash as they host Morrisville State at noon next Monday.
