Gators Drop 8-1 Decision to Wheelock

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Ari DeJesus (Providence, R.I.) scored her first career goal for the Gators, but it wasn't enough to overcome a seven-point day by Wheelock sophomore Alison DeGloria (Chelmsford, Mass.) as PMC, acting as the visitors, fell to the Wildcats 8-1 at Hedley Field.

Pine Manor drops to 0-9 with the loss, while Wheelock improves to 2-7-1 on the year.

The two teams traded chances for much of the first half with neither team able to get the edge. Gators goalkeeper Maria Vaughan (Okinawa, Japan) registered nine of her 11 saves in the opening stanza.

Vaughan's counterpart, sophomore Madeleine Grover (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) was also busy early on making four of her six first-half saves in the first 25 minutes. She finished the day with 10 stops.

DeGloria would break the scoreless tie as she finished her first of three goals in the 27' to give the Wildcats the lead. Wheelock would add another just four minutes later as first year midfielder Emma Spencer (Barre, Vt.) converted on a penalty kick.

The Gators would cut the deficit to back to one on DeJesus's finish. Before her tally, the junior midfielder was all around goal forcing Grover to make a pair of stops in quick succession.

Courtney Adams (Holliston, Mass.) finished off the first-half scoring with a goal in the 36'.

The Wildcats continued their offensive output in the second half. DeGloria reestablished the two-goal lead for the hosts in the 65' with a helper from fellow sophomore Michelle Woods (Wilmington, Mass.). DeGloria would finish off her hat-trick less than three minutes later to give her team the 5-1 lead.

Forward Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, N.J.) tried to will her team back into the game putting three shots on the Grover in a two-minute span, but was unable to put one past Wildcat keeper.

Wheelock would add three more goals in the final 10 minutes, including goals by Woods, Adams, and freshman Gabby Haywood (East Longmeadow, Mass.) to give them the 8-1 decision.

The Wildcats' next game is Saturday as they host Bay Path in an NECC match up. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.

PMC will have a quick turnaround as they hit the road for a 6 p.m. match with Fisher on Thursday.
