Falcons Sweep Pine Manor in Saturday Doubleheader

LYNN, Mass. – Pine Manor struggled to get anything going on offense on Saturday afternoon as they pushed across just one run in two games against Fisher at Breed Field.

The Falcons took game one 16-1 and game two 12-0 to improve to 6-21, while dropping the Gators' record to 0-16.

Mikayla Zimmerman (Corona, Calif.) went 5-for-7 on the afternoon, while Madison Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) went 4-for-4 to lead the offense for the Falcons.

Game 1

Jayla Vega (Hoboken, N.J.) was a powerhouse in the circle pitching a five-inning complete game for the win. She allowed just two hits and struck out nine. Chardonai Rose (Fairfield, Calif.) started for Pine Manor and struck out one, but took the loss.

After Vega got the first two outs in the first, Vanessa Soto (Fontana, Calif.) tried to start a two-out rally with a single, but the junior hurler got out of the inning unscathed.

The Falcons got on the board in the bottom of the inning as Morgan Selmi (Rohnert Park, Calif.) led off with a double to left center. Zimmerman then doubled to left center to bring Selmi home, but Zimmerman was stranded at second when Rose was able to retire the next two Falcons.

Zimmerman had another RBI-double in the second as she brought home three more Fisher runs as part of an eight-run inning for the hosts. They added two more in the third to take an 11-0 lead into the fourth.

Soto singled once again in the fourth as she tried to get something started for the visitors. She would eventually score on passed ball with Rose at the plate to break up the shutout.

Fisher tacked on five runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Zimmerman led the offense going 3-for-4 while Carroll went 2-for-3.

Game 2

Game two started off as a pitching duel as Zimmerman and Rose kept the two teams scoreless for the first two frames. Zimmerman would get the win for the Falcons as she allowed just one hit and struck out six. Rose was handed the loss in game two.

Michala Clea (Washington D.C.) led off the third with a single, but the Gators' could not bring her home. After junior Anastasia Walker (West Springfield, Mass.) reached on an error, Zimmerman got two straight pop ups and a line out to get the Falcons out of the inning.

Then Fisher got their bats going in the bottom half of the third with a Selmi single. Vega followed with a single before three straight walks gave Fisher their first two runs of the game. Cassy Pillard (Jefferson, N.H.) and Carroll then hit back-to-back singles to increase the Fisher lead to 4-0. Fisher added four hits in the inning taking a 12-0 lead heading to the fourth.

Soto relieved Rose in the middle of the third and got the final five outs for the Gators allowing just one hit and three walks.

The Gators couldn't get anything going against Zimmerman as Pine Manor went 1-2-3 in the fourth and fifth, helping Zimmerman to her third win of the season.

Both squads are back in action tomorrow as the Falcons will return to Breed Field to take on the University of Maine-Presque Isle in a doubleheader, while the Gators return home to play two against New Rochelle. Both twin bills begin at noon.
