Men’s Soccer Can’t Rally Past Me.-Machias

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Nathaniel Hayes (Newport Richey, Fla.) scored a pair of goals but Pine Manor College men's soccer dropped a 3-2 decision to the University of Maine at Machias during a Sunday afternoon matinee at Hedley Field. The Gators fall to 3-5-0 on the season while the visiting Clippers improve to 6-2-0 on the year.

Me.-Machias got out to a two-goal advantage in the first-half, as Juan Manuel Solares opened the scoring at 14:24, finishing on a free-kick played into the penalty area by Ibrahim Mohamed. Mohamamed dropped the ball in from midfield, finding Solares at the penalty spot before Solares turned and beat PMC goalkeeper Dominic Douglas (Bainbridge, Ga.) to his right for the first goal of the match. Haider Al-Frelhy then added the second Me.-Machias goal, chipping the ball past Douglas after receiving a beautifully lobbed ball from midfielder Tony Yehek.

Douglas was nothing short of spectacular in goal for the Gators, making ten saves on the afternoon to keep the score line close, as the visiting Clippers outshot PMC 23-14.

The Gators closed the gap to one before halftime when Hayes scored the first of his two goals. Following a save from Douglas, the PMC goalkeeper sent a punt down field that Ricardo Stewart (Graham, N.C.) flicked on to Hayes with his head before the Gator freshman popped the ball up and over Me.-Machias goalkeeper Everett Sentar and in the back of the net.

With the score 2-1 after the half, Al-Frelhy added his second marker at 57:27 on another ball sent from the midfield. This time finishing on an open net after the Clippers played a through ball that forced Douglas off his line.

The Gators were not content to go quietly, as Hayes added his second marker at 80:57. Mahamadou Coulibaly (Bamako, Mali) sent a ball through to Hayes who finished in similar fashion to his first marker over the top of the outstretched arms of Senetar.

Mahamadou the nearly tied the match in the closing seconds of the game, just missing on a header as Me.-Machias would escape with the 3-2 win.

Pine Manor will return to action on Friday, October 17 when they welcome Me.-Presque Isle to Hedley Field. Me.-Machias will host Unity on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
