Gators grounded by Salem State

SALEM, MASS. –  Maddi O'Connor (Hamilton, Mass.) and Jasmine Severino (Lawrence, Mass.) combined for 15 kills and Mackenzie Salls (Turners Falls, Mass.) added 25 assists as Salem State blanked Pine Manor 3-0 on Thursday evening at Twohig Gymnasium. The Vikings sparked by a 25-9 win in the first set, won the next two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-18 to complete the sweep.

Salem State (4-3) broke open a close second set with an 8-1 run, taking advantage of -.059 hitting percentage by Pine Manor (2-3).  The Gators rallied back to tie the score at 21-21 on back-to-back kills by Keisha Hadron (Yokosuka, Japan), but the Vikings prevailed as Severino and Samantha Chaisson (Duxbury, Mass.) ended the threat with successive kills.  

Seven service aces by Salem State in the third set gave the Vikings a comfortable 23-15 lead as kills by Danielle Joseph (Waltham, Mass.) and O'Connor cemented the win.

Hannah Mullarkey (Salem, Mass.) finished with 15 digs and three aces while Chaisson added five kills and four aces.

Alexa Leon (El Centro, Calif.) had four kills, four aces and 22 digs for Pine Manor while Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Alaska) added six assists.
