The Gators earned a hard fought 3-2 victory over Presque-Isle to head home with their second victory of the year.

Pine Manor is 2-4 on the season with the split, while Becker with the two victories, run their overall record to 4-2, the best start in their program's history. Maine Presque-Isle has now lost eight straight since a season opening victory and falls to 1-8.

Becker Senior outside hitter Cheyenne Melanson (Sandown, N.H. / Timberlane) led the Hawks, tallying 16 kills over a combined five sets. Senior middle blocker Marissa Turner(Coventry, R.I. / Coventry) hit .429 with four service aces, three blocks and five digs. Sophomore libero Brittney Bullis (Stafford, Va. / Mountain View) amassed 11 service aces and 26 digs, both team bests on the day.

In game one the Gators came out slow and dropped the first set to the Hawks 25-15. The Gators found their game though and rallied to win game two 26-24 and appeared to have momentum heading into the pivotal third set.

The Hawks once again took control and won the third and fourth sets going away. Pine Manor had five different players with four kills or more, led by Viyanni Johnson's seven. Alexa Leon led the team with 22 digs and Ashley Whiteshield had a tremendous all-around afternoon even in defeat in game one.

Whiteshield was very good in game one; but she was dominant in game two. Whiteshield collected 24 assists, 20 kills, 11 digs and 9 service aces in the victory over UMPI; for the afternoon she amassed 41 assists, 26 kills, 24 digs and 13 service aces. Her teammates were equally up to the challenge as Leon was strong in the back again with 31 digs. Kendra Williams had a hitting percentage of .364 with 9 kills and Mary Owen was also solid in the victory.

The victory was hard-fought as Presque-Isle rallied from two sets down and tied the match 2-2 after a dramatic 26-24 victory in the fourth set. That fourth set seemed to take everything out of UMPI though, as Pine Manor won the final set and the match with a convincing score of 15-2.

The Gators will look to get their first winning streak of the season on Tuesday Night when they travel to Mass. Maritime at 7:00pm.
