WESTON, Mass. – Pine Manor College women's volleyball defeated St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-12, 25-19) in the second match of the Regis College tri-match on Saturday afternoon. The Gators dropped their opening match to host Regis, 3-0, and now stand a 4-10 on the season.
Susan Le (Lowell, Mass.) led the PMC attack with 15 kills and added seven digs, while Destiny Mann (Orlando, Fla.), pictured, posted 10 kills and 19 digs to go with three aces. Natasia Franklin (Windosr, Conn.) chipped in 13 kills of her own and Phalogne Pierre (Boston, Mass.) had eight kills, nine digs, two blocks, and two aces. Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Alaska) handed out a match-high 40 assists in the win.
St. Joseph's (3-8 overall) was led by 21 kills and five digs from Lauren GaNun (Breezy Point, N.Y.). Jennifer Moncino (Ridgewood, N.Y.) added eight kills and 13 digs to go with four aces. Chanell Joseph (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Bears defense with 14 digs. Cassandra Nasta (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in five digs of her own, while Anna Carbone (Ozone Park, N.Y.) dished out 23 assists to go with six digs.
In the opening match of the day, Regis swept Pine Manor in three-straight sets. Nicole Connolly (San Mateo, Calif.) posted a match high nine kills to go with four aces and six digs in the win. Sam Bliss (Framingham, Mass.) and Gracie Molinari (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) registered eight kills apiece, while Kristina del Rey (Miami, Fla.) added six of her own. Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru) led the Pride defense with eight digs and also added six service aces and Haley Schulte (Fullerton, Calif.) handed out 27 assists.
Pine Manor was led by three kills apiece from Franklin and Le. Pierre and Mann also added two kills apiece, and Whiteshield posted eight assists. Le led the Gators with six digs on the day, with Mann adding five of her own. Pierre and Carline Kirksey-Almond (Lawrence, Mass.) had four digs apiece.
Regis also defeated St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-5) in the final match of the day to improve to 13-7 overall.
Pine Manor will return to action at the start of next week, playing back-to-back matches on Monday and Tuesday. The Gators will travel to Becker for a 7:00 PM match on Monday before battling Newbury on Tuesday at Hellenic College, also at 7:00 PM.
Regis is back in action next Saturday when they host Southern Vermont College and the Wentworth Institute of Technology in a tri-match starting at 11:00 a.m. St. Joseph's travels to Medgar Evers on Thursday night for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
