CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – First year forward Brooklynne Lewis's (Anson, Maine) two second half goals helped lead the Clippers to a 3-0 victory over Pine Manor.
With the loss the Gators drop to 0-8, while the Clippers improve to 6-3.
Me.-Machias controlled the ball for much of the first half, outshooting the Gators 14-0, but the Pine Manor defense was up to the test.
Sophomore goalkeeper Maria Vaughan (Okinawa, Japan) made three of her seven saves in the first half to help get the Gators into the break with a scoreless draw.
The Clippers stayed on the attack in the second stanza. In the 59', Lewis scored her first goal of the game from about 35 yards out to break the deadlock. The Maine native also had a game high ten shots.
The visitors would strike again less than five minutes later as sophomore back Samantha Shaneybrook (Pembroke, Maine) jumped into the attack and sent a driven ball to the far post beating the diving Vaughan.
Lewis would cap the scoring in the 70' when she received a through ball from the center circle from fellow first year Megan Fromwiller (Sanford, Maine). Lewis was able to get beyond the Gator defense and chip the ball over the goalkeeper to give the guests a 3-0 lead.
The PMC offense started to find a bit of rhythm late in the game. Junior midfielder Ari Dejesus (Providence, R.I.) was able to spring classmate Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, N.J.) on a few breakaway chances, but Lynch was only able to put one of those efforts on goal.
Next up for Me.-Machias is Unity, who the Clippers will host on Wednesday. Kickoff is 5:00 p.m.
Pine Manor returns to action on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. home match against Daniel Webster.
