PAXTON, Mass.-- Anna Maria College scored four goals in each half, using a balanced attacked to defeat Pine Manor College women's soccer 8-0 at AMCAT Field on Monday afternoon. Pine Manor falls to 0-3-0 with the result, while Anna Maria improves to 2-2-0 with the win.
Seven different AMCATS found the score sheet, led by sophomore Sarah Fogg's (Gorham, Maine) two goals. Sophomore Melissa Andersen (Oxford, Mass.) and freshman Savanah Catucci (Mahopac, N.Y.) put the AMCATS up 2-0 in the first eleven minutes of the match.
Leading 2-0, the AMCATS tacked on two more goals with just over ten minutes to play before the half as sophomore Rebecca Mauricio (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Fogg scored just a minute and 19 seconds apart.
Fogg recorded her second goal of the day just five minutes into the second half as her 25-yard shot was on-target, clearing the head of Pine Manor goalkeeper Maria Vaughan (Okinawa, Japan).
Vaughan made 14 saves for the Gators, recording double-digit saves for the third time in as many matches this season.
Anna Maria freshman classmates Emily Liakos (Arlington, Mass.) and Emily Gorrivan (Windham, Maine), and senior Arianna Masley (Oxford, Mass.) also recorded second-half goals for the AMCATS.
PMC first-year Christy Cruz (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) had a team-high two shots on goal for the Gators, while classmate Sarah Orsette (Westland, Mich.) and junior Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, N.J.), pictured, each also recorded a shot on net.
The Gators are now off until next Sunday, when they host Fisher at 1:00 PM at Hedley Field.
The AMCATS return to action on Thursday when they travel to Mass. Maritime for a 7:00 PM contest.
