NORTHFIELD, Vt. –Pine Manor College men's soccer could do little to stop a relentless Norwich University attack, dropping a 9-0 decision to the host Cadets on Tuesday evening at Sabine Field.
Norwich senior Chris Bristol (Clinton, Conn.) scored twice to lead Norwich (3-3-1, 0-0-1 GNAC)
Bristol headed home a cross by sophomore defender DJ Spears (San Antonio, Texas) in the 24th minute to give the Cadets a 1-0 lead before adding a goal before halftime to give Norwich a 4-0 lead at the break.
Norwich's Alec Brigante (Colchester, Vt.) and Ryan Curley (East Haddam, Conn.) also added first half goals, with Curley also assisting on Brigante's marker.
Pine Manor goalkeeper Oscar Estrada (North Port, Fla.) made nine saves for the Gators, who fall to 1-4-0 in their inaugural season.
Norwich sophomore Jacob Zimmerman (Litchfield, N.H.) scored three minutes after the half, while Norwich added two more tallies with two penalty kick goals in the 70th and 81st minutes when junior midfielder Pedro Rodriguez (Bolivar City, Venezuela) and junior defender Eric Beecy (Stowe, Vt.) converted successful PKs after Pine Manor was whistled for handballs in the box.
Norwich freshmen Bryan Mazzola (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Scott Barber (Medina, N.Y.) each scored their first career goals in the 84th and 86th minutes to cap the scoring on the night.
Norwich senior goalkeeper Christian Hallstrom (Las Vegas, Nev.) made one save to pick up the victory, while sophomore Kevin Taylor (Natick, Mass.) was not called into action after replacing Hallstrom in the goal midway through the first half.
The Gators will return to action on Saturday when they take on Wheelock in game two of a PMC Soccer doubleheader, as Women's Soccer will take on Becker in game one at 1:00 PM. Norwich will also play Saturday, as they will host Suffolk at 5:00 PM.
