Release courtesy of the ACAA

Eight teams from six ACAA institions have earned the right to contend for the ACAA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships. The tournament will be held February 23 & 24 at the Orvis Activities Center on the campus of Alfred State College in Alfred, NY.

Thomas More (24-0), the second-ranked team in NCAA DIII play, is the top seed in the women's tournament and will kick off the tournament by facing #4-seed and host Alfred State (4-15) at noon ET on Saturday, February 23. That game will be followed by #2-seed Finlandia (5-16) facing #3-seed Valley Forge (8-8) at 2 p.m. ET.

The Saints of Thomas More (15-7) are also the top-seed in the men's tournament and will also face the #4-seed and host Alfred State (11-10). That game is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET with #2-seed SUNY Delhi (12-9) playing #3-seed Pine Manor (7-14) in the second semifinal at 7 p.m. ET.

The women's championship game is scheduled for noon ET  with the men's championship to follow at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, February 24.

"We look forward to a very exciting ACAA basketball championship weekend," said Dr. Kelly J. Higgins, ACAA Commissioner. "The women's championship features the second-ranked team in the nation and Valley Forge, which qualified for the NCAA DIII Basketball Championships last year while the men's championship features four teams that, by the Massey Ratings, are very evenly matched."

As approved by the member institutions, due to our geographic footprint the ACAA utilizes the Massey Ratings system (masseyratings.com) for qualification and seeding into the postseason ACAA Championships in each sport except Cross Country. The host institution also receives an auto qualification, and if the host is not in the top four in the Massey Ratings on the deadline date for the winter season (Monday, February 4) after Massey has updated them for the prior week they will automatically be assigned the #4 seed slot in place of the Massey Ratings #4-ranked team. The two-week minimum qualifying date was set so teams could make travel arrangements that insure they have a minimum of two weeks advance notice of travel before the Championship. In the case of women's basketball Mount Mary would have received a bid, however, they notified the league office prior to the start of the season that they chose not to participate in any ACAA championship in their first year of membership (2018-19).
