Strong Second Half Send Gators Past Bryant Stratton

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Six Gators scored double-figures as the Pine Manor men's basketball team posted an 86-76 win over Bryant Stratton on Friday night at Brunelli Court. The win gave PMC its third-straight win and its longest winning streak of the season.

The victory propels Pine Manor to 7-13 and drops Bryant Stratton to 13-7.



  • Sophomore Sayvonn Houston (Brocton, Mass.) and senior Jamel Hamans (Meriden, Conn.) each scored a game-high 16 points. Houston also had 12 rebounds for a double-double.
  • Senior Ellis Reid (Hartford, Conn.) provided 14 points off the bench on 5-for-6 shooting from the field.
  • Freshman Jalen Bruce and senior Rasheed Bell (Dorchester, Mass.) both pitched in 12 points, while Steven Collins (Lynn, Mass.) also reached double figures with 11. Collins also had a game-high seven assists and four steals.


  • Sophomore Damone Brown (Buffalo, N.Y.) tied for the game-high with 16 points, 12 of which came on four three-pointers.
  • Sophomore Tyrell Mitchell (Buffalo, N.Y.) and freshman Daquan Walker scored 14 and 11 points, respectively.
  • Senior Nicc Johnson (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored 12 points, while grabbing a team-high eight rebound and handing out a team-high five assists.


The two teams were very evenly matched early in the first half with neither team with neither team able to establish a sizeable lead.

It was the Gators who blinked first as the Bobcats went on a 9-0 run midway through the first half. Brown got the run starting with a three-pointer just under the 12 minute mark, followed by back-to-back threes from Walker, giving Bryant Stratton a 26-16 lead.

However, the was the biggest lead the Bobcats would have all night as the hosts battled back and eventually tied the game at 40 with a jump shot from Bruce with two minutes remaining in the opening period.

Bryant Stratton freshman Jeru Molson (Buffalo, N.Y.) hit a three-pointer to break the deadlock before Bell answered with a jumper for the Gators. PMC went into the break down 43-42.

Pine Manor established itself in the second half getting its first lead since the opening minutes just a minute into the second frame as Bell converted two free throws to put the Gators up 44-43. They were able to open up the advantage with a 13-5 run.

The next five minutes featured two ties and two lead changes before PMC put together a 9-2 run to secure the lead for good and come away with the 86-76 victory.


The Gators are right back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 2 as they hit the road for the first time since Jan. 16. PMC will match up with Fitchburg State at noon. It is their third back-to-back of the season.
