Pine Manor claimed the first ACAA Men's Basketball Championship with a 62-53 win over UMaine-Presque Isle.
The Owls got out to a lead in the first half that ballooned to as many nine points at the halfway mark of the half, but Pine Manor used solid shooting to pull within one point only two minutes later. Pine Manor would slowly build the lead to as many as six points before settling for a four-point halftime lead. The Gators shot an incredible 46.2% from the field in the first half.
Pine Manor maintained the lead through the first half of the second period, but the lead was never more than six points during that time. Maurice Harris made an Owl free throw at the 10:50 mark to tie the game. The Gators went over four minutes without making a field goal to help the UMPI cause. It was the first time that PMC hadn't lead the game since the six-minute mark of the first half. The Owls finally took the lead for the first time since early in the first half at the 8:16 mark of the second half.
Pine Manor regained the lead, but the game stayed close as the final quarter of the game unfolded, but the Owls started to find themselves in foul trouble and Pine Manor started hitting free throws. By the time 3:30 was left the Gator lead had been extended to nine points, the largest of the game and what would turn out to be the final margin.
Steven Collins, the tourney MVP led Pine Manor with 17 points while Rasheed Bell, an all-tourney selection, and Louise Savage had 10 points each. The Owls were paced by all-tourney selection Kevin Collins with 17 points while Deandre Duncombe contributed 13 points and Maurice Harris had 11 points.
