On a cold night, the Gators picked up their first win of the year in front of a sizable crowd, defeating Rivier University 7-2. Sophomore Alec Hanney (Leominster, MA) shut down the Raiders? bats, holding them to sox hits over seven innings, while allowing a lone run to cross the plate. Joe Mello (Westerly, RI) slammed the door with a solid two inning performance in relief.
While Rivier took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, PMC stormed back by scoring four runs across the next three frames with timely hits by Evan Reynolds (Everett, Ma) and Jeremy Soulinthone (Marietta, CA). Those runs would be all the Gators needed, though they did tack on three more in the 7th for good measure, with the three RBI spread between Brian Jones (Detroit, MI), Jorvi Jimenez (Providence, RI), and Eduary Baez (Boston, MA).
The Gators? offense was led by Eduary Baez (Boston, Ma) who put together a three hit night, including a scorching double down the line that briefly brought the temperature above freezing. Brian Jones continued his hot streak, adding two more hits to his season total.
PMC takes the field next on Wednesday night at the New England Baseball Complex against St. Joseph?s at 7 p.m., where they will look to build on Sunday night?s success.
